Oct 9 – Bala Stone Church

Plein air artists are invited to set up at 9:00 AM and paint or draw until noon in and around the Bala Stone Church. After a few hours we will gather to reflect on our art and share insights. All mediums and levels of artist are welcome.

Painted before and sketched many times the granite stone church flanked by hydrangeas in full bloom will be a good spot. Built in 1926, the church backs on to the Bala Falls across from Purk’s Place

DIRECTIONS: The address is 1035 Bala Falls Road near the Bala Falls. From Gravenhurst, drive 26km on Muskoka Road (Hwy #169) to Bala. Cross the bridge to the large parking area across from Don’s Bakery. Walk back to the Church across from Purk’s Place. Google Maps Link Here

WHAT TO BRING: Your own art supplies and canvas or paper, chair, easel or surface. Water, sunscreen, and hat although some shady spots are available).

PARKING & WASHROOMS: There are two options for parking nearby. A number of spots are available on Bala Falls Road across from the Kee to Bala. This road is now only accessible from one direction. A public washroom is located on this road. A large public parking lot is north off of Muskoka Road across from Don’s Bakery. A short walk across the bridge over the Moon River will bring you to the Bala Stone Church yard.

PALETTE SUGGESTIONS: Magenta, Raw Umber, Phatlo Green, and Carbon black.
