As the Royal Mail Steamship Segwun sits at the dock in Gravenhurst Wharf on Lake Muskoka beside her sister ship the Wenonah II, artists of the Bala Plein Air group are invited to paint the storied and treasured historical vessels.
Built in Glasgow, Scotland in 1887, the RMS Segwun carried the mail, freight and many passengers on Lake Muskoka to their summer resorts and cottages. The iconic steamship is undergoing major refurbishment and restoration. LOCATION: The Muskoka Steamships are docked at the Gravenhurst Wharf in Gravenhurst. Google Map here. The Muskoka Steamship & Discovery Centre parking lot is well identified by signs Public washrooms open until 9:00 PM are available in the Lion’s Club Picnic Pavillion nearby in Wharf area.
WHAT TO BRING: Easel, art supplies. There is ample room to spread out and set up on the dock or shore for a long view.
PALETTE SUGGESTIONS: Creamy purples and pinks, yellows and whites, or cool greens and blues.
